Helping Others Around the World Becomes Life’s Work for One Woman

September 15, 2010

The latest Good Neighbor on goodneighborstories.com is Donna Baranski-Walker. Nearly 30 years ago Donna felt moved to help the oppressed people of Poland, and because of those efforts she was recently awarded a special medal of honor from the now free country. It was given to her in a ceremony by Nobel Laureate and former president of Poland, Lech Walesa. Donna worked full-time as an engineer for many years, and raised her children, all the while volunteering in numerous peace causes. Several years ago she started her own nonprofit, the Rebuilding Alliance, which helps people rebuild their homes and communities in war torn countries, primarily in Palestine. One of the best parts about Donna’s story, is that anyone can make a difference, despite hurdles such as age, experience, and even distance.
