About GNS

Welcome to the Neighborhood!

Thanks for stopping by! This web site,, is about just what the name says: people and organizations being good neighbors to others, whether around the block or around the world. It’s good news, good ideas, good sharing about how we can all be better neighbors in our own communities, or in the world at large.

Each week I’ll be sharing new stories and photos about good neighbors. Throughout the week click on the blog link, or subscribe to, the Good Neighbor Stories Blog for frequent updates. The blog features quick stories, ideas, links and reviews. You can also follow the site on Twitter, or “like” our group page on Facebook. And please leave your comments! I want to hear from you about your own stories about good neighbors.
Why Good Neighbor Stories?
There are a lot of good people in the world, despite what some perceive is displayed in the media. I heard two men talk recently in a store about why they don’t read newspapers or watch TV news. To them it’s all bad news. “Nothing changes,” one man said. “When I check again in a couple of months everything will still be messed up.” The other man agreed. I disagree! It’s not all bad news. There’s a lot of good happening in the world, so why not provide a site that focuses on how people are being good neighbors?
Who is My Neighbor?
More than ever in history, we are interconnected with people around the globe. What I do in my community affects communities half way around the globe. Through the products I use, the car I drive, the trash I throw away, the words I write, the money I donate, the people I interact with across thousands of miles through social networking. Companies as well are neighbors to all, in the way they treat workers, to the way they safeguard the environment (or not), to the way they do business with customers. We are neighbors with all.
Who am I?
I am Pam Marino, the writer who created this web site. I’m a former newspaper reporter who has also worked as a coordinator of volunteers for a non-profit organization, and has spent many years volunteering myself. I’m a native Californian who lives in the Silicon Valley with my family. Contact me at
